This is why! I love his visual aesthetic and how just by looking at a photograph I instantly know it's his by the style he has adopted. This video is pretty much one of his photographs in motion. I think Hedi should do a directorial debut just like Tom Ford. Too much talent in this man!

Today, I met the one and only Scott Schuman (The Sartorialist) and he answered a few of my questions with great detail. I remember as soon as I took out my camera to take a photo at Northpark mall, in five seconds mall security was already telling me to put it away. So, sneakily I took some cell phone photos. I don't know how Jane from Sea of Shoes does it. Maybe she's an exception because she is a regular shopper there. I don't know...Anyway, I'm a really big fan of the architecture, art, and shopping at Northpark. I can't help but want to take photos of the window displays!

It's been over a month since being back in Denton and I still haven't found a job. Every day I keep having to buy supplies for my studio classes and I find myself having to cut down on certain supplies in order to save on money. I cannot keep doing this, especially when a lot of your work depends on the materials you have.

Taking photography, painting, and printmaking together is a bad idea! The worst thing is that the class that should stress me out the least is doing the total opposite. Art history survey I online is the worst. Nonetheless, my great time management has taken me where I am now and sooner or later I will be done with school. Hope I can make it because I sure am tired! At this rate I'll look 40 at 25. Someone hire me!

Tom Ford's "A Single Man"

Tom Ford's directorial debut for A Single Man should be a good one. I can't wait to see this movie! Watching the trailer I noticed not one person in the movie is ugly. Their styling is probably the best I've seen in any movie lately and the cinematography is unbelievable. Also, Spanish model Jon Kortajarena has a small roll in the film. I must see this when it hits theaters. One more reason to love Tom Ford.

The new editorial by Steven Meisel 'So Young, So Cool' has the models I wish I was photographing at this moment. I really like how many editorials revolve around the title and really don't have much of a concept around it. This is what is really troubling to me throughout my photographic classes at UNT. Sometimes I feel like I need this very deep concept where it is really visible through my pictures otherwise it wont be understood. When I think my concept and ideas are clear through my photos I get the opposite response. So what do I do since things haven't really worked in the past? Back to school anxiety

Going back to school today was something I've been looking forward to for a while now. Finding out I have a year and a half left before I graduate was the highlight of my day. There is so much to look forward to this semester! Today I was pretty much called stupid by my painting teacher for taking more than two studio art classes. It's not the first time I've taken three studios and a regular class on top of it. In fact, ever since I moved to UNT that's all I've done. It has been a really intense journey but it's halfway done. Anyway, today was the second episode for the sixth season of Project Runway. One of the contestants for this season is a recent UNT fashion design graduate and she won the second challenge. I am definitely rooting for her.

The second day I was back in Denton I went to my friends going away party and saw two great beauties from America's Next Top Model Cycle 12. I went up to both London and Allison, snapped some photos, had a short conversation and walked off happy as can be.

Apparently Allison Harvard is moving to Denton, definitely looking forward to that. Future muse? Possibly...

Well I'm finally back in Denton and it feels good to be all moved in. While I was on my way the worst happened, one of my boxes flew out from the truck and I did not notice until much later. All of my newly purchased products for my new apartment, cologne, shampoo, vintage cameras etc. all gone! Don't know what else was in there but I'm sure there is some desert rodent smelling like Viktor & Rolf's Antidote.

The second day I was back we stopped at a small festival going on in Highland Park next to Lewisville lake and I captured some hot air balloon shots.

Part of my trip to California consisted of wine tasting in the Napa Valley, Jelly Belly factory, Six Flags, and driving for hours up and down the coast. It's really late right now as I'm packing so I really didn't feel like going too much into details. I'll let the photos say it all.

Viva Las Vegas!

This summer I went to Las Vegas for about the 30th time. I've never really cared that I couldn't gamble or experience that Vegas nightlife but being a month away from my 21st birthday really frustrated me. We stayed at the Mandalay Bay and one thing I was really looking forward to were the buffets. I went to the best all you can eat sushi restaurant and had an all around the world dinning experience at the Rio. My Vegas getaway consisted of wave pool during the day and shopping at night. By the way, I can't wait until City Center is complete. It's definitely a city in the city.

Lately I have been updating my blog religiously. I have so many photos from my trip to Mexico, California and Nevada that I have yet to upload. My initial plan was to update my blog from city to city but that was not going to happen. Wifi prices at the hotels were ridiculous! Nonetheless, hopefully you liked the Mexico part of my trip. I will try post the rest of the photos in the following two days. This week has been a little crazy as I'm trying to get everything ready before moving into my apartment.

Guanajuato, Guanajuato MX

My second time visiting the city of Guanajuato was a major opportunity to shoot some really great pictures of this one of a kind city. It's historic mines which at one point provided two thirds of all the silver in the world are a big attraction for this mining city.

Another big attraction are it's mummies that undergo natural mummification. The city instituted a "burial tax" for the families of the deceased and when the families are unable to pay, the corpses are dug up and put on display in the museum. This small town is also the birth place of the great Mexican artist Diego Rivera. Visitors can visit Rivera's house which is now made into a museum.

Beneath the city you can also drive through a maze of tunnels that in the past were used to prevent flooding in the city.

One thing I really liked about this city too is that there are no stop lights! When visiting this city definitely get a tour guide. It is very easy to get lost there and with a guide you can also learn plenty of the history behind the city.

Tequila, Mexico

One of my favorite stops in Mexico was probably the town of Tequila. The town of Tequila, Mexico processes most of the tequila that is on the market today. There in the city, we were allowed to tour various distilleries; as well as taste the various tequilas being processed. The best distillery there had to be Jose Cuervo. They had such an array of tequila and the best tamarind margarita ever. This place is filled with great tours on tequila bottle shaped buses. Too bad I didn't get to ride on one.

Right now I feel like a kid on Christmas morning with my new lens for my D80. I just got back from a week long vacation all around Mexico and I had such a great time. I took plenty of shots and tequila shots! Visiting the town of Tequila in Mexico where they make tequila is bad news. I'll try and post some photos up before I leave on Friday to my next destinations.

Lost Dogs

So today I'm leaving to Guadalajara, Jalisco and I yet have to start packing. I always leave things for the last minute and I just began washing my first load as we speak. Just today I ordered a lens for my DSLR which I am really thrilled about. I bought it used off of ebay for half the price. The one thing that totally convinced me to buy a used one was that it had a 30 days trial in which I would get my money back if I wasn't satisfied with it. Now I just hope I get it in time before I leave to my upcoming trip to Las Vegas and San Francisco. Although everything seems to be exciting and good at this point, three nights ago my two dogs ran away. With no trace of them in any dog pound we assume that they were most likely taken in to someones home. I still haven't put up any signs up for them but I did go around a big part of my neighborhood in search for them. It kills me not knowing if they are safe but I can only hope that we will eventually find them.

Frankie Morello Spring/Summer 2010 Menswear

The first thing that caught my attention for Morello's collection was his intro theater act to his spring/summer collection. The collection was visibly inspired by equestrianism, baseball, and golf, all which are closely associated with country club organizations often for the rich and famous.
I really liked the transition from the prim and proper to the rebellious street inspired baseball players.

Another reason to love Dazed and Confused. The London based style magazine published their August 2009 issue in 3D. I need to get my hands on one of them. If I had $75 to spare on a year subscription to a magazine this would be on top of my list. I really like what fashion magazines are doing lately. After cleaning up and closing the store we

were headed to Track One restaurant to to celebrate Melanie's last day at Express.

If you're ever in El Paso, Texas you should stop at Track One. It's a really cool restaurant located inside a train.

There we had some great wine, buffalo wings, fries

and a huge order of nachos.

We posed for photos and later I did the stanky leg and dance to Michael Jackson songs.

Don't judge me, it was a tribute! Our waitress even did thriller for us.

These two pairings create a great diptych.

A Few Words of Advice...

Find your eye
"Visit museums and galleries and look at photo books. Whose photos do you admire? What subjects or styles are your favorites-landscape, portraiture, fashion, nature, reportage, candid street scenes, architectural, abstract? Do you want to be a photographer and not just a snap-shooter? Answering these questions is essential before buying a camera."

Do your homework
"Find what type of camera is best suited to your style of shooting, what type of camera was used by your idol, and which camera models were the top of the line and had the best array of lenses and accessories." [Ed. note: The easiest way to find out all these things is probably just to buy McKeown's book.]

Popularity counts
"The camera needs to be popular enough that lenses and accessories are not hard to find. You should consider strictly mechanical cameras and use a separate handheld meter. You can also go vintage wihtout buying secondhand: Some classic cameras are still available new, like Linhofs, Leica Ms, the Komamura Horseman, and K.B. Canham-and some new cameras are classic by design, like Alpa."

Avoid Weird batteries
"Many cameras with light meters used mercury batteries, which are no longer available, for ecological reasons. If a camera uses batteries, check to see that they're AA or AAA. Also, avoid instant-film cameras-whether Polaroid or Kodak. No matter what the latest rumor is, these films are either extinct or nearly extinct."

Avoid plastic
"With cameras, there is very little classic in plastic."

Summer Heat

This look was just inspired mostly by the summer heat. It has been in the triple digits here in Texas so I took a pair of scissors and started to cut away. Pretty good way to stay cool, I recommend it. All of the stuff I'm wearing is old stuff I had in my closet for several years now. Good thing I hold on to things for long periods of time. You never know.

Today I'm running on two hours of sleep and I probably had the most productive day from my summer so far. Early morning bike ride

Well it's summer and my sleeping schedule is all over the place. It was six in the morning and I was getting ready to go to bed when I suddenly felt the urge of going bike riding around my neighborhood. It was a really nice experience until exhaustion and dehydration really started to kick in. What was I thinking? This coming Saturday I also have a photo gig. I was asked to photograph an event where they will honor local leaders in civil rights and community service. This should be interesting. I'll post pictures of the event for you to see.

The quality of the prints were not very good in the first place so when I scanned them I had to fix some weird lines that ran across the photos. You can still see my attempt to fix the lines. Don't judge me, it was three in the morning. Never again will I develop my film and print at Costco. Some of them are very grainy but that's just part of using 400 speed film under low light conditions.

The latest Mexican comedy starring Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna is a must see!

Gael García Bernal singing a Spanish version of Cheap Trick's song "I want you to want me" for the movie Rudo y Cursi.

Summer Heat Stroke

The heat in El Paso is just too extreme to be meandering outdoors.

With nothing much to do I took some photos of myself in my natural habitat. (my room)

Retouching the Mug Shot

I was playing around a bit with my image to try and enhance the beauty of my model and this is what I came up with. I first started off by removing some of the distracting blotches of paint in the background and then moved on to adjusting the levels and colors of the image. I then proceeded to the models face where I removed her dark circles, added some eyelashes, and touched up her make up a bit to make her colored eyes stand out.

So if I could name one photographer that has inspired me the most throughout my photographic career it would be designer and photographer Hedi Slimane. His work can be seen in magazines such as i-d, Interview, Vogue, Vogue Hommes International and more. Currently he has several books published full of rock photography including artists such as Pete Doherty, Courtney Love, Daft Punk and Amy Winehouse. Slimane’s contribution to fashion and the art world has earned him the top spot on my list. This man has a great amount of talent!

This past Memorial Day weekend I took a two-hour road trip from El Paso, Texas to Ruidoso, New Mexico. Here are some photos of my weekend in the Land of Enchantment.

Misty Mountain Gourmet Shoppe has the best fudge, coffee, brownies, jam etc.

My Sister's Closet is a vintage store for women and is located next to Misty Mountain.

Inside My Sister's Closet you can find plenty of vintage designers wear from Escada to Salvatore Ferragamo.

I really recommend visiting Ruidoso during the winter months where you can go skiing, snowboarding or tubing at the Ski Apache resort.

Bleach is my Friend

After three long years of owning two of the exact same pairs of Levi's 511 jeans I decided I needed some variety in jeans. Most of my closet is full of dark denim and I really needed some light jeans to change it up some. I decided to bleach a pair of my 511 jeans and here is the result.

Some areas were in the bleach longer than others so they came out blotchy and unevenly bleached. The end result was somewhat satisfying. If you're going to bleach anything and want it to be evenly bleached I really recommend you make sure it doesn't float to the top of the water because the areas not in contact with the bleach will be darker than those that are. I would also experiment on something that you wouldn't mind ruining.

The Carrot

The new style of denim called "The Carrot" is being released by Levi's. This style of jean hasn't been popular in the past and many think it's unflattering. I really like the silhouette of this style pants and these Zara pants which have been out for a while are my favorite. I think it was about time for something new besides skinny jeans.
